Good Maintenance Practices:

  • Before purchasing and installing an engine long block, make sure it is the correct size and fit for your vehicle.
  • Keep coolant levels full, but do not overfill, to help prevent overheating in the engine block.
  • Keep the oil changed and the oil level full for proper lubrication.
  • Do not pour cold water into an overheated block, as this may cause it to crack.
  • Regularly inspect engine long blocks for signs of damage or failure, and replace them if signs of damage or failure are found.

Service engine long blocks when signs of wear or failure are displayed, including but not limited to:

  • Internal engine noise, including but not limited to knocking or tapping
  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Engine misfire
  • Loss of power
  • Engine overheating
  • Excessive oil and/or coolant consumption
  • Oil in the antifreeze or antifreeze in the engine oil

Certain automotive parts can be recycled and remanufactured for future use. These parts have a "core charge" that is used as a deposit on the portion of the part that can be reused. The reason for this charge is to encourage the return of your old part. When the recyclable component from your old part is returned to us, the charge is refunded to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. A component in the block like a piston ring or bearing can be repaired, but any damage to the block core itself is cause to replace the engine block.

Yes. They differ in the amount of parts they contain - the long block comes with cylinder head(s) and valve train components while the short block does not. However, their external dimensions are still the same.
