Good Maintenance Practices:
- Before purchasing and installing a tailgate handle, make sure it is the correct size and fit for your vehicle.
- Keep tailgate side latches lubricated.
- Don't pull on the handle with excessive force.
- If additional lubrication is needed, use a multi-purpose lubricant.
- Regularly inspect your tailgate handle for signs of damage or failure, and replace it if it can no longer be safely used.
Service your tailgate handle when signs of wear or failure are displayed, such as:
- Rod disconnected from the handle and not operating the latch
- Handle bent or broken
- Tailgate side latches not lining up to the bed side posts
