Good Maintenance Practices:
- Regularly change your vehicle's motor oil.
- Replacing dirty oil and filters will help protect the inside of your engine from premature wear.
- Use the recommended grade of oil for your vehicle as found within your owner's manual.
Signs of wear for your vehicle, which may indicate it's time to change your motor oil, include but are not limited to:
- Low oil levels
- Unusual noises from under the hood
- Very dark or thick oil
- Oil life monitoring system approaching zero percent of oil life remaining
- Having driven more than the recommended miles in your owner's manual without an oil change
- Black fluid leaking from your vehicle could be a motor oil leak.
- A heavy thick smell originating from under the hood or from the exhaust could be a sign of burning oil within your vehicle.
