Good Maintenance Practices:
- Before purchasing and installing a battery cable, make sure they are the correct size and fit for your vehicle.
- Clean battery cables and posts if signs of corrosion appear.
- Ensure that wire connections are securely attached.
- Keep the top of the battery clean and dry.
- Regularly inspect your battery cables for signs of damage or wear, and replace them if signs of damage are found.
Signs of wear for battery cables include but are not limited to:
- Breaks or cracks in the insulation jacket or outer coating of the wires
- Change in resistance when moved or flexed
- White powder or a green tint to the copper wires, indicating corrosion
- Loose connections
- Corroded terminal ends
- Drop in or loss of voltage
